Tuakau Domain

| To the Editor] Sir—Mr Fulton has taken great pains to write a long letter on the above subject but he does not make his case any better. I wrote basing my letter on the report which appeared in your paper and Mr Fulton did not take the trouble to correct such report, in which the words "formerly under control of a Domain Board" were used. On reading the report, as Chairman of the Domain Board, I had no option but to write, as otherwise an impression might have got abroad that control of tbe Domain had lapsed. If the deputation were incorrectly reported it was Mr Fulton's place to have had it corrected as soon after publication as possible, but so far no correction has appeared and the report holds good till corrected.

Then, again, why all this secrecy over the matter ? If any move was intended why were not the controling body consulted. Mr Fulton is quite wrong in stating that the Domain has not been used to any great extent by the public When the war broke out the Tennis Club was in a flourishing condition and the Board were considering the laying down of ' a new court, and almost every fine evening in the summer the court was in use. Like all others we have suffered through the war.

The outer portion of the grounds is let, and the funds go to keep the gardens in order. It is the public's fault that it is not used more, but with the growing population of Tuakau it is only a matter of time when it will be, If the ground is a mile and a-half from the township it is also much about the same distance from other parts to the south and east of the district, and it is conveniently situated where several roads meet. Only quite recently a Red Cro6s gathering was held there and was one of the most successful gatherings that have taken place in the district. A great many people outside the district who attended then expressed both surprise and pleasure at seeing such nice well kept grounds and garden, and considered that Tuakau was fortunate in having such a valuable property, where all might meet and enjoy themselves. My statement still stands that it is one of the best pieces of Domain property near Auckland. It is for Mr Fulton to show to the contrary. Tours, etc., HUGH McGUIRE, Chairman of the Tuakau Domain Board.
