TUAKAU.

The Rev W. Butterworth, Moderator of the Auckland Province, returned on Fiiday last from the Presbyterian General Assembly at Dunedin where he had been in attendance. In honour of Private W. T. Oliver, who had been wounded at Gallopoli and Soaioie and has been discharged from the Army in consequence of serious wounds to his arms, a social and dance took place in the Public Hall, Tuakau, on Thursday last. Mr VV. G. Graham occupied the chair and during the evening iouk occasion to present Private Oliver wiili a silver watch as a mark of the esteem in which he is held by a large number of friends. The Yicar (the Rev Foulkes) and Mr E. T. Frost spoke encouragingly of the goo I services rendered by their guest who had done his share towards the upholding of the Empire which serviro they all recognised and their gathering that night was a sign of their appreciation of duty done. An interesting musical programme was provided, contributed by the following :—Overture, Miss Lucy McGahan; songs, Miss Foulkes and Mrs Taylor, Messrs Somerville, Patterson, J. Rodger, J. Pirret; duet, the Misses Dickens and Strahan; violin solo, Mr Keppell; recitations, Miss Jna Deeble, Rev Vaughan, Messrs (jr. Revell and R. Gla.-gow. A 1 i>s Mayall acted as pianist. Dancing was then freely indulged in, Mr E. Revell satisfactorily carrying out the duties of M.O. while the dance music was supplied by the Misses Mayall and Geraghty and Mrs Keppell (piano) and Messrs Kepptll and Duncan Campbell (violins).
