Tuakau Domain

| To the Editor | Sir, —It was with considerable surprise that I noticed in your issue of the 23rd inst. that a deputation had waited on the Prime Minister to ask for control of the Tuakau Public Domain, which they asserted was formerly controlled by the Domain Board. This deputation, comprising Messrs D. Fulton,:W Glasgow and J. H. Craig, deliberately or otherwise made mis-statemeiits to the Premier, The Domain is still controlled by a Domain Board, and at no time in the past has the control been allowed to lapse. They had absolutely no warranty for inferring that the property was out of control or that in the interests of the town and district they should assume control of it. There has been no agitation on the part of the Tuakau residents to alter the j status of the Board, and to assume that to do so would be in the interests of the town and district is to reflect upon the present Domain Board, who have always kept in order what is probably one of the finest Domain properties near Auckland. If the gentlemen comprising the deputation had taken the trouble to inspect the grounds it would have been quite apparent to them that there was a controlling body. There is a pavilion erected on the grounds, numerous shrubs and shelter trees are growing, and an asphalt tennis court has been put down which has been very much appreciated by the young people of the district. All this goes to prove that the Domain Board are keenly alive to the interests of the district. I trust, Sir, that we shall hear no more of such insinuations and for the benefit of those of the deputation I may say that we do not intend to let the matter rest where it is. Yours, etc, — HUGH McGUIRE. Chairman Tuakau Domain Board.
