Cr Johnstone, he said, gave every satisfaction and he was moreover familiar with local requirements. Cr Moriison seconded and Cr S-sa vill supported. The motion on b*ing put to the meeting was carried unanimously. Cr Johnstone briefly returned ; thanks for the honour bestowed upon i himself of being re-elected Chairman I and at the same time extended to ' the three new members a hearty wel- ' come. He also expressed his pleasi ure at seeing again amongst them j his old friend Cr Crawford, whom he ■ regarded as a " resurrection memi ber."

Crs Crawford, Broughton and Marx briefly returned thanks for the welcome extended to them. AX IMPORTANT INDUSTRY The Firth Pumice Co , Ltd , Auckland, wrote that having purchased property on the opposite side of the Waikato from their works near Ohinewai it was their intention to convey pumice across the Waikato river opposite their works between Rangiriri and Ohinewai when a road was made to the river. They pointed out that almost all the frontage between the main road and the river was owned by Mauris and they suggested that the Council should take steps to acquire a chain road with one acre frontage on the river for the general landing of goods by the river steamers and for use by the Company for shipping pumice across the river. They expressed the opinion th .t the river connection would be of great public advantage particularly as the public, had no access to the river whatever. They added that they were engaged in a business of the greatest importance to the whole farming community, viz, the supplying of pumice ininsulation to the freezing works all over New Zealami and Australia and the supply was of special importance on account of '.he hurried enlargement of cold storage chambers by the Freezing Works by reason of the shortage of steamers to convey frozen produce to Europe. They therefore impress ni on the Council the importance of giving a road access to the Waikato river at au early date. It was resolved to refer the matter to Cr Broughton and the Engineer to report at next meeting SLAUGHTERHOUSE LICENSE Mr John Martiudale, Onewhero, applied for a slaughterhouse license at Onewhero which application was approved.
