MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL.
The annual meeting of the Manukau County Council was held on Wednesday last, the members present being Crs A. D. Bell, A. C. Hattaway, F H. Brownhill, Alex. Muir, F. M. Waters and John Luke. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. The Acting Clerk, after reading he report of the election, called for nominations for the position of chairman for the ensuing year. On the motion of Cr Brownhill, seconded by Cr Hattaway, Cr A. D. Bell was elected to the chair. Cr Bell briefly thanked the mambers for the honour conferred on him and stated he would do his best to do justice to the position. EX-CHATRMAX's REI'OKT. The ex-chairman (Mr H. R. Mackenzie), in a very comprehensive report, covered many important matters dealt with by the late Council and pointed out the difficulties they had had to meet in keeping the roads in their splendid repair throughout the past wet winter. Tie urged the new members to work as economically as possible in order to place their Ridings in a sound financial position as many now works would be requiring attention in the near future. Several of the old wooden bridges in the County would soon require renewing and he advocated replacing them with permanent concrete structures and urged the Council to get the subsidies from the Government, which had been on the Estimates for the last throe yoars for those purposes. He wished to thank the public-spirited men who had come forward and taken up sufficient coupons to purchase the Papatoetoa recreation ground which was a very valuable asset to the County In conclusion, he thanked the members of the Council, the staff and employees for the courtesy extended to him as chairman for the last five years, during which time much hard work had been done in forming the foundation and future of the Manukau County Council. VOTES OF THANKS. On the motion of Cr Hattaway, seconded by Cr Brownhill, a hearty vota of thanks was passed to Messrs Mackenzie and Bryant for their past energetic and capable services on the Council. MA.VntEWA .MATTERS. The Council resolved to meet the Manurewa Town Board re railway road matters, at Manurewa on Thursday morning, December Oth, on the ground to discuss the situation. MEETING DAYS. It was decided <o continue holding the month'y meetings of the Council on the second Tuesday of every month at 10 ;J() a.m.
