BUCKLAND.
SUCCESSFUL FLOWRR SHOW, ; Bucklarn.l was net "only favoured with fine weather on Friday last u when the Flower and industrial exnibition was opened at the Buckknd Public Hall, hut during the two days a large company was present which was encouraging to the executive. _ " | The primary object of the show j was to increase the funds of St. j Paul's ( hurch and to stimulate a | deeper interest in (lower and vege- j table cultivation. In all these respects the public of Buckland and the district responded loyally. Soon after'" 230 on the opening day the President (Mr A. Gummer) with Mr R. F. i'.ollard (Member for RaglanCr II Wilcox (Franklin County Council), Mr G Pulman, Mr IL H. I). Wilv (honorary Secretary )and other supporters assembled on the platform. In a neat speech Mr Gummer •explained the object <>f the gathering ; and bri< lly introduced Mr K. F. Bollard, M P , who officially opened the exhibition. In doing so Mr Bollard expressed his pleasure at being present and offered his congratulations on the excellent exhibition, expressing the hope that the event would be an annual one, and that the financial result would be satisfactoiy in every way (applause). After the singing of the National ' ' Anthem business commenced, many visitors spending pome time admiring the superb collection of ilowers and vegetables. Others, TecognisJ ing the time devoted to sewing and i the production of articles of a useful , | and ornamental nature shown in the j industrial section, found much to i i admire and favourably comment upon. ' j As judge of the flower section the j Executive wero fortunate in securing I the services of Mrs J. W. D. Sharp (Rama Rama), .Mr J. B. Brown, jr., (Pukekohe) judged the eggs and butter, Mr Collins (Tuakau) fruit, ;Mr Booker the vegetables, while ' j Mrs J. Dickson (Runciman) acted ' | as judge of the needlework section, ! j Generally speaking the whole ex- , i hibition was a creditable one. ' Flowers especially roses were 1 well sustained, while the decorated tables wero distinctly well arranged . and showed that the exhibitors possessed in no small degree that discriminating taste which easily compelled recognition. Mrs Hill (Papakura) showed a splendid collection of ' flowers not for exhibition, .the carnations being particularly choice, i In produce, eggs and butter upheld i Buckland's established reputation, both these lines being excellent in ' quality. The industrial section too j contained several useful and orna- | mental articles. In needlework the j crochet iu wcol and thedrawp threadwork W'-re in 'ho opinion of the i judge (,Mrs Dickson) paiticularly j good, while the knitted socks by a little giri of only seven yfi#s who i ga : neil Ist prize, deserves especial i mention, inreed the needlework I exhibits have probably not in point ■ of mfrit been surpassed at any show ! in the district. In the milk and cream I section the first prizes were won by ' Messrs A. J. Melville and A Gum-
I mer respectively. As showing their desire to mater- ' iallv assist the object in a practical i manner Airs K. Appleby and Miss 1 Wilcox kindly gave and also served ' the tea which thoughtfulness was i much ar>))reciated by one and all !
