MANUREWA
The channelling and kerbing on the footpaths from the Station are a decided improvement and indicate that the desire of the Town Board is to keep abreast of the times. The progressive spirit is in keeping with Manurewa's development as a desir able residental district.
A Red Cross supper is being organized by the ladies of the district and as this is likely to be the last of the season's fixtures a great effort is being made to ensure the function being a financial success. Messrs Martin Bros, the pioneers of the district and the original holders of all the land from the hill to Manukau Harbour, have sold their fine homestead and 12.3 acres bounding the main South road and Oram's road. This is a very choice property studded with fine patches of native bush. The purchaser of the block is Mr W. T. Cox, of Waitakaruru, who intends to take up his residence on the estate. Mr Enos Pegler, the local land agent, negotiated the sale. Messrs Martin Bros have purchased a residence at Epsom and leave Manurewa this week. MANUREWA TOWN BOARD LAST NIGHT'S MEETING. Hamilton wrote drawing attention to the necessity of a road ltading from Hill Road and connecting with Claud Road. He pointed out that the Puriri Park Syndicate had reserved a chain of land in front of his property for the purpose of a road and in the interests of the district he asked that the Board should have the road opened as desired. The Chairman considered that in the interests of the district the road should be opened and he accordingly moved that the piece of land from Hill road to the Puriri Park Estate should be taken to form a public road.
Mr Pegler seconded. Mr Lupton expressed the opinion that before anything was done the owners of the adjoining land should be approache 1 with a view to their making some contribution towards the cost of the road and he moved an amendment to that effect. The amendment was carried, the Chairman and Mr Pegler dissenting. STATION ROAD The Chairman expressed the opinion that the piece of road from Station road to the first gully ought to be cut down and reformed and he proposed that the matter should be left 11 the Works Committee to decide as to what should l.e taken off, a surveyor to l>e engaged to take the levels. Mr Lupton moved as an amendment that befoie any permanent work was commenced a surveyor should lie engaged to take the levels. 'lhe intendment was lost
Mr I' gler questioned tbe wisdom of doing any work until the permanent levels had been ascertained and he suggested that the whole of the district should be surveyed The Chairman thought it was tro big a <iuestion to be dealt with at the present time but he said he would agree to an estimate being procured of the cost of taking levels throughcu f . the district. This was agreed to in place of the original resolulion. VOTES OK CONDOLENCE On the motion of Mr Lupton a vote of sympathy was passed with Mrs Slade, Mrs Auchram, and Mr F. W.
