PAPAKURA.

Information has been received from the Minister of Education sanctioning a grant for additions and improvements to the Papakura public school. The cost of the work will be about £6OO.

A sale of work is being arranged for tomorrow (Wednesday) in connection with the Methodist Church. The funotion is to be held in the Sunday School Hall and various attractions will be provided. Private A. Burgess, carrier, of Papakura, who left with the 25th Mounted Reinforcements and is reported as seriously wounded, was a member of the " Star of Papakura Lodge of Oddfellows. From a cable received by his brother it appears he has bad no less than eighteen wounds in the head. He was an honoured member of tne Volunteers and had served long enough to be entitled to the Long Service Medal. Under the chairmanship of Mr W. J. Roe a general meeting of the Papakura Rifle Club was heM on Friday evening last, when there was a good attendance of members in addition to Captain Waters and the Secretary (Mr P. 11. Holt). It wr« reported that arrangements had now been made for equipping the Club's range at Takanini. the members of the Club having devoted a good deal of time in repairing the j.r jund to make it ready for use. Messrs Harold Wilson and John Peat were elected as new members At the Rama Kama Flower I Show and Exhibition Papakura School secured 11 prizes out of H> entries and at Cloved on on Saturday last won 1 0 prizes with I■> entries. 'lho opening practico of the Papakura Ladies' Cioquet Club took placo on the green on Satuiday last in brilliant weather and a pleasant afternoon was .spent. Next Saturday the Bowling Club will compete for the stars and feathers and a good »amo is ariti cipated.
