LOCAL AND GENERAL.
Mr John Beatty, on behalf of Messrs W. and R. Fletcher (N.Z ) Ltd. will be purchasing pigs at Runciman next Monday. A further list of dates and places for the attendance of a Government officer to inoculate calves against blackleg is advertised in this issue. Revival services are to be held in the Pukekohe Methodist Church next Sunday and on Tuesday evening the Rev. Val Trigge, the Australian evangelist, will give an adress entitled " The story of my life." The New Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Bacon and Meat Packing Company Ltd., will be buying pigs next week as follows : At Patumahoe on Monday, at Pukekohe on Tuesday, at Papakura and Runciman on Wednesday, and at Buckland on Thursday. At the recent Standard VI. examinations out of 14 pupils from the Pukekohe Convent School, who sat under the examiner, no less than 12 secured proficiency certificates, the remaining two gaining competency certificates. Trooper Donald B. Gorrie, who has been killed in action, was well known in the Lower Waikato. Prior to his enlistment he was a member of the auctioneering staff of Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons. Mr Wybern Wilson, B.M, has arrived in Auckland from Christchurch to assist the city magistrates in their duties and is to take over the administration of the Courts in the Lower Waikato, viz, Pukekohe, Waiuku, Mercer and Papakura in addition to Otahuhu and Onehunga.
By request of several residents of Waiuku the successful entertainment recently given by the Snowflake Concert Party in Pukekohe iB to be repeated at Waiuku on Monday, December .'3rd. The proceeds will again be devoted to the Red Cross Fund. New Tea Rooms known as the " Kozie Tea Rooms" have been opened by Mr W. T. Rossiter, late of Patumaho", at the old established lolly and fruit establishment at the corner of King and Edinburgh streets, Pukekohe, and the proprietor solicits the support of old and new patrons. The members of the Manukau County Council have arranged a soc'al evening to be given in honour of Mr H. R. Mackenzie, the late chairman of the Manukau County Council, and of Mr J. C. Bryant, the late member for the Papatoetoe Riding, in the Tiffin Restaurant, Auckland, on Friday of next week.
Anangements have now been completed for the holding of a conference of branches of the New Zealand Farmers' Unbn at Puke kohe on December 14th. Some nine or ten branches have signified their willingness to send three delegates to discuss the " sub provincial scheme " and members of the executive and the union's organiser are expected to be present The Mauku Branch can be congratulated on initiating this movement which will undoubtedly be for the progress and advancement of the Faimers' Union. A reminder is given that entries close on Monday next for exhibits at the Rose and Sweet Pea Show and Industrial Exhibit! >n to be held in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, on December 6th and 7th in aid of the fiiuds of St. Andrew's Church. A member of the Committee will be in attendance next Monday at Mr C. K. Lawrie'e office from 9 am. to 9 p-m. for the purpose of receiving entries or the same may be left at the office of this paper. Instead of. post entries as previously arranged being accepted for the best Original and Fancy Dress competitions intending competi:ors are notified that entries must be made to the Hon.
