WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE

The monthly mooting of the above organisation was hold in the Borough Council rooms on Wednesday, November I4*li. Present: Miss Webster (in the chair). Mesdames Steunrt, Mcßae, Webb, Bogan, Baxter (secro'ary), and Miss Graham. Apologies for absence were leceived from Mrs Motion and Miss Usher. Letters of thanks was received I from Mrs Ounson for two parcels of knitted goods and one case of litera- ' cure, and the same writer also enclosed extracts from soldiers' letters, written in the trenches, expressing their thanks and deep appreciation •■ for Dominion gifts and literature sent by the League. Miss Spedding wrote intimating that she was resigning the secretaryship of the Auckland centre and stating that in future the duties would bs carried out by Miss Harvey._ Miss Webster reported a falling off in Doniinion gifts this month, the number totalling only 169. The canvassers appeal to the public for support in this very deserving movement Accounts amounting to £l2 /is Id were passed for payment. A discussion took place re the advisability of closing down for the Xmas vacation. As all the members spoke against the suggestion, it was agreed that the League members keep working while the war lasts trusting to have the general sympathy of the public in the decision made. Two new members were duly elected, viz , Mrs Lenehan and Miss McGovern. The President reported that a soldiers' welcome had been recently held in the Masonic Hall at which a small chargo for admission was made. After paying expenses the sum of £1 lls was banked,—lt was agreed that this money should be kept as the Returned Soldier*' Fund. The report on Paddy's Market showed a total income of £l">0 lis 7d as against expenses in conjunction with same of £ll 10s 7d, leaving a balance for the general fund of £139 ■is. 'lho members expressed extrema satisfaction at the splendid support given by the public Miss Usher, convenor of the sewing committee, sent a written report stating that last month's work consisted of 12 shirts and 12 suits pyjamas, and tho same had been dispatched to the Red Cross depot. The convenor further stated that her committee was willing to continue sewing.—It was agreed that Mi s Usher should ba authorised to purchase material required by her committee. The following is a list of workers, viz, Mesdatms I). 11, Jo.'io , Turner, Hogau, Moore, Kei'h, Hoddenot, Misses I. Brown, Hart, r, Fausett, Pollock, Usher. Mrs Webb, convenor of the Enter tainment Committee, was granto I leave of absence owing to ill-health until such time as she felt she could again take up the duties Mrs Stuart, convenor of the Literature Committee, stated that she had packed and sent tho monthly box of books to Auckiaud. She also reported that Mr Webster had made and eroted two streot book bins hoping by this method to increase the supply of literature each mouth. The convenor asked that a letter of thanks should be sent to Mr Webster for his valued assistance. Mrs Baxter, convenor of.the Knitting Committee, reported having parcelled and despatched to headquarters the following knitted goods 20 c;ip j , 1 I scarves, 2<> pairs s-x and 19 mittens. The convenor applied for the sum of £8 1 Is f'.d to purchase wool for next mon h's work and tho same was granted. The following donations were received : Mrs Roose os, Miss Ilunniford 2s (id, Mrs Bouse 1 pair sox. The list of workers was reported as follow*:
