NEW COUNTY COUNCILLORS
i Mr J. S. Montgomerie, who sue-! ' ceeds Mr J. Henry as the member | for Mauku riding on the Franklin ( i County Council, is a son-in-law of the late Mr M. M. Kirkbride, a former MP. for Manukau. He served in the Boer war with the first contingent NZMR. and has been for many years a member of Auckland Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. He resides at Mangere where he has always taken a prominent part in local affairs and is a member of the Mangere Road Board. He has been farming in the Karaka for the past five years and expresses a very high opinion as to the future of that district. Mr Richard .Thomas Reid, the new representative of the Waiuku riding on the Franklin County Council, was born in Canterbury in 1877. He engaged in fanning near Christchurch and also was the proprietor of a butcher's business in that city, being President of the Christchurch Master Butchers' Association Bome years ago he went to Auckland where he acquired a butcher's establishment and on selling out there some twelve months later he purchased the freehold of the Waiuku Hotel, of which premises he entered into possession. He also acquired and still has a farm on the Aka Aka swamp. Some two years ago he disposed of the lease of the hotel but has continued to reside in Waiuku. On the formation of the Waiuku Town Board in 1914 he was ap- - pointed Chairman of that authority and still retains that position. He is a well-known sportsman and has both trotters and "gallopers" in training.
