RED CROSS LEAGUE A very fcuccesaful function in aid of the ,Ke 1 Cross fund was held in the Alfriston Halt on Wednesday afternoon, November 7th. Musical items were rendered by the following: Miss Daisley, Miss Madigan, Miss Gianlield eontiibuting songs, Mrs J. T. Bodle and Miss Welch vocal duet, and Mrs Laird recitation. In the absonce, through ill-health, of Mr Bickford, Red Cross organiser, Mr Percy Isut!er, of the Auckland Centre, Red Gross League, gave an excellent address on the aims and objects of Red Cross work, urging those present to continue in the noblest work it was .heirs to do, viz , to help the wounded boys.—The Rev W. C. Woods also spoke eloquently to the point at issue. Afternoon tea was supplied by lady friends. In the evening a plain and fancy dress social was held, when the hall was filed to oveillowing. The Grand March started at eight, the following taking part:— Ladies: Mesdatnes Laird, Gamsborough Lady; Worker, Grecian Girl; Arnold, 17ih Century lady; H. Moody, Buttercup; W. Laird, Irish lass ; Hanison, Ruination ; Ruby Daisley, Pierette ; Jean Moore, Lady Godiva ; Sidie Moore, Dutch Maiden ; Mary Sutton, Yatching girl; 3is Short, Summer; Lulu Lupton, Spanish dancing girl; Blooraiield, Japanese girl; linn Campbell, Fairy queen ; Molly Dukes, 'lango fojly; N. Pardingtoii, Gra,.o Darling ; Kemp, Gipsy ; E. Inskep, Gipsy ; Inskep, Japanese girl; Wilson, Dutch girl; Diuce, Dutch girl; S. Embling, Japanese girl; Stonbeck, Queen of Hearts
Gents : Messrs W. Moody, patches; I). Mclnnes, half-holiday; M. Mclnnes, Policeman; E. Ham-ch, Footballer ; Oscar Druce, Cowooy; C. Luoton, Tenuis ; H Embling, Tennis ; G, Campbell, Cricke;; J. Moore, Pierrot; C. Fitzpatiick, .'list Infantry ; B. Johnson, Rough Rider ; and Palmer, Tenuis. Dancing continued till the early hours of the morning. At intervals guessing competitions took place and goods in connection with the 2s 6d competition wore auctioned. The winner, Mrs Robt Notion, realised £') 10s from the original start of 2s Gd.
Mr D. A. Reid, on liehalf of the Dancing Class, presented Mrs H. Moody with a Japanese hand hag in recognition of her interest in the pupils. Mis Moody briefly replied, saying the 'class had benefitted the Ued Cross l»y £'2<>. In thanking theui very heartily, she mentioned it was the cause she was working f ( ,r.
