BOMBAY

RED CROSS GATHERING A successful Red Cross afternoon tea and evening social was given in j the Bombay Hall on tha 26: h October '' by the ladies of Portsmouth road. There were various competitions, : surprise packets, fancy stalls, lollie ; stall, etc. The winners of tho competitions were : Mr R Evans, iced cake ; Mrs Holland, plain cake ; Miss D Gauntlett, horse; Mr A Lowrie and Mr H. Flay, pig (given back); Mr H. Johns, guinea pig: Mrs Wytnan, calf (given back); Miss Maseheld, table centre ; Miss P. Flay, camisole top ; Mr JI. l'iggott, coat and hood ; Miss Glasgow, picture; Mr H. Wootten, afternoon tea spoons back.. Surprise packet--first pri/.e not claimed. In the evening there were songs, recitations and selections by the Ponson by Boys' Band and dancing was kept up till the small hours of the ni uning. Mrs F. L. Wright kindly supplied the music and Mr 11. Flay made an oiliciont M.C. The hall was well tilled and everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The promoters are grateful for the geneious support given them by the public The gr.turi total of £<M was realised and lias been forwarded t<> MrU. F. Bickford, lion Rod Cross orgiinisor, Auckland.
