OTAHUHU BOROUGH # COUNCIL LAS I NIGHT'S MEETING At the meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council, held last evening, there were present the Mayor (Mr McDonald), Ors J. Brady, H. J. nail, H. J. Moffitt, R. Todd, A. J. Wildman, H. V. Stringer, H. T. Clements and F. K. Field, with the Town Clerk Mr W. J. Dinnison) POST OFFICE HOL'RS With reference to the Council's request that the proposal to curtail the hours of the opening of the Otahuhu Post and Telegraph office should be postponed, a letter was re ceived from the Premier (the Rt. Hon W. F. Massey, stating that in view of the possible establishment of a telephone exchange at Otahuhu the question of closing the Post Offiee in the evening would be deferred. " AI.I-'S WELL THAT F..\l>S WELL " "That perennial question—Woolley's foothpath"—was the remark of the Mayor when this matter was about to be brought forward "This enquiry so far has been.held iu(!ommittee and I think it better to continue it so." " All enquiries should be held in Committee " said his Worship. Cr Hall then formally moved " that the discussion of Woolley's footpath be held in Committee and this was seconded by Cr Wildman. Cr Field moved an amendment that the matter should be dealt wjth in open Council. He stated that he had seen various enquiries fail in their purpose through meetings being held in Committee. Cr Field urged that there was more chance of light being thrown on the matter if dealt with in open Council. He maintained that the electors ought to be in a position to seo and hear every communication that might arise. Cr Brady said there was nothing to hide and he accordingly seconded the amendment.
Crs Field, Stringer, Brady and Moftitt voted for the amendment and Crs H.. 11, Todd, Clements and Wildman against. The voting being equal the Mayor gave his casting vote " against " and trie matter was accordingly then discussed in Committee.
On the Council resuming Cr Brady moved and Cr Wildman seconded " That the Council exonerates Cr Field in connection with the question of Woolley's footpath, that the discussion on the matter closes and that Cr Field be asked to withdraw his resignation." This motion was unanimously carried.
The Mayor then moved " that the Foreman be exonerated from blame in the matter ff Wooley's footpath." —This motion w*s also carried unanimously Cr Field expressed his satisfaction with what the Council had done and announced tint he wished to withdraw his resignation.
The Councillors : Hear, hear. Some handshaking then took place between Cr Field and other Councillors and the meeting closed.
