' A return billiard match, Pukekohe v. Patumahoe (eight players aside! is to be played in Mclntyre's billiard saloon, Pukekohe, on Thursday evening next. Much interest is centred in the contest, Patumahoe having won the previous match. On Tuesday evening of next week the extensive programme of war pictures " Sons of the Empire " will be shown at the Premier Hall, Pukekohe. The films, which are of _an authoritative chiracter, are being used for the excellent purpose of swelling the funds available to provide comforts for our fighting men, whether they are in trench or camp, or, having spent their effort for the time being, are convalescent from wounds or sickness. They display troops from all the Dominions in their great partnership with the men of Britain engaged in the stupendous work of war on the west front; and also the great fleet in which men from overseas play no mean role. A number of pictures show the devastated towns traversed by the Allies in their advance after the retreating Germans in the region of Bapaume and Peronne in the great offensive this year. The everinteresting " tanks " are displayed to great advantage. The box plan is at the Bookery.
