CLEVEDON.
A farewell social was held recently to Ptes Mason, Finn and Clark, who were on final leave. Patriotic addresses were given by Mr A. D. Bell and Rev J. V. Jacobson, songs were contributed by Mrs W- Stephens, Messrs Coley and Bell and a recitation by Mr Blake, the remainder of the evening being occupied in dancing. The Clevedon A. & P. Society's new schedule has now been issued aad includes for the first time indoor sections, compiled by the Executive Committee in consultation with the following ladies and gentlemen, viz., Mrs Dawe, Misses Waters, Fraser, Brown and Mr Crisp. All of the latter have been appointed as stewards of the indoor exhibits together with Mrs Brody, Mrs Hyde, Misses Orum, Daw, Sutherland and Mr Allen. Mesdames Willis, Sharp and Messrs Kalaugher, Hay and Creighton have been asked to officiate as judges of the section. Active Red Cross work has been carried on in the district since an address given a few weeks ago by Mr C. F. Bickford, organiser for the Auckland Province, a branch of the League having been formed, Mrs N. J. Sutherland acting as secretary. Fourteen cases of fruit, cakes, groceries, poultry, etc, were sent last week for the Red Cross produce stall in Auckland. Considerable sums of money have also been collected, " Red Cross " afternoons are to be held monthly while several young ladies are to undergo a course of tuition in the making of the various surgical bandages, towels, etc., soas to be able to instruct others. Large quantities of cut out materials, etc., are arriving from the depot every month to be made up by the ladies into shirts, bed jackets, pillow-slips, sox, etc. At a meeting held on October 25th it was decided to have a Red Cross concert in the near future in order to further augment the funds. v Summer sports are now in full swing at Clevedon the undermentioned clubs having bad their opening days, viz , South Tennis Club, and Clevedon Croquet Club. Favoured with fine weather, large numbers of players were present on al} occasions, the various lawns being in gcod condition for play. At the annual basket ball tournament held on Labour Day at Otahuhu, Clevedon again won, retaining the banner for another season.
