HUNUA

A basket social and dance was held in the Public Hall on Friday evening last, in aid of the new Post Office fund. There was a large gathering. During the evening songs were sung by Miss M. McConnel and Messrs S. White and H. McConnel. Just prior to supper the ladies' baskets were sold by auction, Mr E. A. McConnel acting as auctioneer. The gentleman purchasing a basket had to take the lady owner into supper. Considerable interest was caused through two local bachelors trying to outbid each other for a certain young lady's basket, the ultimate purchaser going as far as £1 4s before his rival retired from the bidding. Dancing was kept up until the early hours of the morning, Mr H. McConnel played the music for the dancing.
