Local Votes The Public Works statement was presented in Parliament yesterday for the authorisation of votes for expenditure in the current year. As previously communicated by the Minister to the various local authorities the grants made, with very few exceptions, coustiiute ra-votes of the amounts which appeared on last year's Estimates and which had not been distributed. In many cases the works are already in course of execution but the figures as given below only t*ke into account liability as it stood on March -'JIs: hist. L6OO is re-voted for Tuakau police station, LIOO, on account, for Buckland post office and L7OO for Manurewa post office. WAIKATO RIVER WORKS. The votes in respect of works on the Waikato Riv»r are limited to clearing willows, erection of wharves etc., as previously authorised, totalling L 590.
