TUHIMATA.

f .oth BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION On September 25th, a very pleasant gathering was held at the Barn on the invitation of Mr F. Ballard to celebrate the occasion of Mr Mark Ballard having attained his ."lOch birthday. Music, dancing and games were the chief features of the evening and the brisk way in which the items were carried through showed that it was not the first time that Mr F. Ballard had presided over a like function.

During the evening congratulatory speeches were made by Messrs Walker and Ballard, MrM Ballard replying in suitable terms and relating a few incidents of the early days that caused a good deal of amusement. A sumptuous supper was provided, a handsome birthday cake being cut and handed around.

The noticeable feature of the evening was the fact that ail (seven in number) of Mr Ballard's brothers were present together with his eldest sister, Mrs Kern, the other two surviving sisters, Mrs Ashby (of Potone) and Mrs Sloane (of Taupaki i being unable to attend. Messrs Luke and Jim Ballard (violin and piano) provided the music for the dunces in their usual got d style. After the singing of God Save the King and Auld Lang Syne the guests wended their way homeward.
