MANGERE.

MANGERE ROAD BOARD A meeting of the above Board was held on Monday evening last at the Mangere Public Hall. Present - Messrs M. B. Kirkbnde (chairman), C. E. Goosman, S. W. House. James Montgomene and W. W. Massey, with the clerk, Mr Edgar Ashcroft. UOADING MATTERS Letters were received from Messrs Taylor and E. Orman in reference to storm water and the bad state of road leading to their properties and the foreman was instructed to attend to the matters. Mr A. E. Trayes also wrote in reference to stormwater, but this matter had already been brought under the County Council's notice as it was within their jurisdiction. WATER SLTI'LY SCHEME

Mr F. E. Powell, the Engineer engaged by the Board to deal with the proposed water supply scheme, wrote with reference to securing an option over pipes and fittings that would be required if the scheme was proceeded with. He informed the Board ofsteps he had taken to secure them the option on certain conditions fo that there would be no delay in carrying out the proposal when the work was properly sanctioned. It was resolved that Mr Powell's action be approved of and that he be asked to do his utmost to expedite the work.

The Clerk reported that the proceedings in connection with the poll and the raising of the loan were being carried out with all possible haste. SUPPLY 01' METAI. A request was made on behalf of the Manukau County Council that the Board and Council should combine in an undertaking to start and re-open the old quarry on the Reserve near the Board's storage shed, where it was reported that blue metal of good quality was obtainable. A 'petition signed by several ratepayers in the vicinity of the Reserve against the proposal was handed in so the Board decided that before any decision was arrived at, it would be advisable to inspect the proposed site. Arrangements were therefore made to hold an inspection at an early date. MISCEI.LAXr.OI'.S

It was resolved that the Papatoe toe Road Board should be asked to assist in effecting repairs to Station road by granting the Board some metal from off the old railway line, with which to repair the road, as the damage done to the road had been caused to a great extent by the Papatoetoe Road Board's carting contractors.

The Clerk was instructed to make application to the Railway Department for permission to use the waste piece of land near the Mangere bridge as a tip for waste material, and also to draw the Manukau County Council's attention to the nuisance caused by the Chinamen near the bridge dumping manure near the road fence, causing a menace to public ihealth and also to draw attention to the poor class of buildings they were erecting in that vicinity. It was resolved that steps be taken to provide a large scale map of the district as it was impossible to trace properties correctly on the small plan at present in use. AITOINT.MEXT OF KAXGER Several applications were received to fill the vacancy of ranger and dog registrar caused by the resignation of Mr D Ford, who had held the position for some years. After careful consideration the Board appointed a local man, Mr John Sommers, to the position. FIXAXCT Accounts amounting to £O7 12s fid were passed for payment.
