PAPAKURA PATRIOTIC LEAGUE

A meeting of the Papakura Patriotic League was held in the Parish Hall on Monday of last week, Mr A. Willis presiding. The Treasurer reported that £lO had been forwarded to the Auckland Women's Patriotic League for Xmas gifts and that £ 111 was in hand for local distress, £l2* for the emergency fund, and £65 for the British Red Tross L ea g uo On the suggestion of Mr Elliott it was agreed that Mr Bickford (Red Cross Organiser) should be invited to address the Red Cross meeting to beheld in Papakura on the 10th inst. It was also decided that a special Xmascard (kindly donated by Mr P. Holt) with 5s worth of Y.M.C.A. coupons should be sent to each of the local men on service, the number being about 70. The Chairman suggested that the League should invest £IOO in the Government war loan, and after some discussion the Treasurer was authorised to purchase one £IOO bond from the Post office. Mr Elliott having promised that the proceeds of the "School afternoon" on October 10th would be handed to the Patriotic League, the Chairman issued collecting permits for the occasion. Mr and Mrs Elliott were elected members of the League.
