INTER-TOWN BILLIARDS
Pukekohe v. Waiuku The third of the series of billiard contests between players of Pukekohe and Waiuku, each side having previously one win to their credit, was attended with very great interest at Mclntyre's billiard saloon, Pukekohe, last Tuesday evening and although honours were easy as regards successes scored by the players, viz. four all, victory was secured by the Waiuku representatives with an aggregate score of 1465 to Puke* kohe's 1298, or a majority of 167. Every available inch within the building was filled with onlookers, Waiuku bringing over a large contingent of supporters. The main match of the evening from the spectators' point of view was the " set to " between the popular respeative proprietors of the Pukekohe and Waiuku hotel*, Messrs C. Clarke and E. J. Morrison, the former having defeated his rival at Pukekohe and the latter having turned the tables on the former at Waiuku. Mr Clarke has only one arm (the right) and plays with a pad as a rest and his expertnew at the game is therefore all the more remarkable. Both players exhibited exceeding cuteness but the final score was Clarke 200, Morrison 162. A gold medal presented by Mr W. Wright, jeweller, of Pukekohe, for the best break of the evening was won by G. Christiansen (Waiuku), viz with 34.
Tbe following were the scores, the Pukebohe players being mentioned first in each instance, viz, H. 0. Lysnar lost to G. Christiansen, 60— 200; McCallagh beat Flavell, 200— 164; W. Butler beat Apia, 200— 144; O. Clarke beat £. J. Morrison, 200—162; J. T. Hewson lost to H. Jull, 117—200; J. Ooady lost to McEwen, 154-200; M. Mclntyre lost to Eaihau, 167—200; H. H. O'Loughlin beat Murray, 200—195. Totals: Pukekohe, 1298; Waiuku, 1465.
At the close of play the visitors were entertained at supper at the Masonic Hall, a strong and representative committee of Pukekohe ''sports" being the hosts. A most dainty spread was partaken at, Mr C. K. Lawrie presiding. Congratulations were freely extended to the winning side and the Waiuku representatives, whilst appreciating their victory, in return expressed their recognition of the good fight put up by tbe Pukekohe men and of the markedly hospitable way in which they were being entertained. The arrangements for the evening were well controlled by Meters M. Thornell and J. Coady and thanks are due to the little band of lady workers who undertook the supper duties.
