WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE
Pukekohe Branch The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee was held in the Borough Council ro )ms, Pukekohe, on September 12th. Present: Miss Webster (in the chair), Mesdaraes Mcßae, O'Connor, Hogan, Stuart, Webb, Baxter (Secretary), and Miss Graham. A letter was read from Miss Spodding acknowledging-the receipt of one box of literature and two parcels of knitted goods. Miss Webster said it gave her pleasure to state that a total of ;52.'i Xmas parcels had been collected. Great credit was due to the canvassers and others who had helped swell this fund.—The members present expressed extreme satisfaction at the liberal response from the public to the appeal. It was decided, owing to the collecting cards being so late iD arriving, not to do collecting for this month. Accounts to the amount of £ls 1 Is 2£d were passed for payment. It wasjigreed, on the proposal of Miss Webster, that an account should be opened at the National Bank and the Treasurer (Miss W. E. Webster) and Secretary were authorised to sign cheques.
It was reported that from the saie of art union tickets on behalf of British Red Cross the sum of £l4 13s had been collected and forwarded to the Auckland Secretary. From the sale of stamp books in connection with the French Red Cross the sum of 19s had been paid to Mr Deane.
Mrs Stuart, convener of the Literature Committee, reported having packed and consigned to the Auckland Depot the usual box of books. She wished to thank all who had helped to keep up the supply. Miss Usher, convener of the Sewing Committee, sent a written report intimating that her Committee had made and despatched seven pairs of pyjamas and also that they had bought material and cut the suits for this month's working. The names of sewers were: Miss Barter two suits, Mesdames W. T. Jones, Turner, R. W. S. Moore, Bogan, Mee, and Misses Fausett, I. Brown, and Usher one suit each.
Mrs Webb, convenor of the entertainment suggested the holding of a bazaar, similar to last year's function, on a date to be decided later. Mrs Baxter, convenor of the knitting oommittee, reported having packed and forwarded to Auckland two large parcels of knitted goods. She applied for the sum of £9 10s 9d to purchase wool to enable knitters to carry on their good and useful work.
The following was the report as to work and donated goods, viz.: Caps, Mesdames J. H. Keith f», Stembridge and Crum 4 each, W. Blake 3, McKinney, Hooey, Thornell, Misses Galloway and Beryl Maxwell 2 each, Mesdames Maxwell, Goldsworthy, Papesch, Stuart, J. Wilson (Frankton), Misses W. E. Wsbster, Elsie, Vera and Clara Porter (Puni) 1 each.
Sox: Mesdames R. S. T. Moore 9 pairs, Meikle (Pollokj, Porter and flarriman 3 each, Barter, Woods, Grigor, E. Stevenson, J.
