ARARIMU
The fine weather experienced during the past has been responsible for increased activities in farming operations here and quite an effort if being made by farmers to get the oats and potato crops planted before it is yet too late. The areas to be sown are not so large as usual, scarcity of labour at harvest time making settlers chary about overdoing it. The milking season is now in full swing though owing to the continuous wet weather foed is somewhat scarce and the milk yield consequently less than usual. General satisfaction is expressed with the homo separation system which was adopted by all suppliers this season for the first time. Compared with the old systsm of carting heavy loads of milk to the creamery and home again on bad roads in the early spring, the saving of labour is very considerable. Land still continues to sell in the district, three farms, viz., those Messrs Forbes, Barker and McCabe, having changed hands during the last couple of months, while the sale is now announced of Mr Walker's property at the Paparimu end of the district. A most successful entertainment in the form of a social and dance was held in the Schoolhouse on Monday evening the 17th inst., being tendered, by his many friends, as a farewell to Mr W. Miller on the eve of his departure to the training camp with the 34th draft. Mr Miller was presented with a safety razor and-in acknowledging the gift, thanked his friends for their useful present, and undertook to do his little bit for the Empire when required. Much credit is due £o the ladies of the district for the excellent refreshments which they provided.
