MANGERE.
WATER SUPPLY SCHEME A proposal for installing a water supply service in the vicinity of the Mangere mountain and bridge waa placed before a meeting of ratepayers, held in the Mangere Bridge School, on Wednesday evening last, MrM. B. Kirkbride, Chairman of the Road Board, occupied the chair , and about 30 ratepayers were present. Mr F. E. Powell, the engineer engaged by the Board to assist in carrying out the project, fully detailed the proposed works, which provide for a complete circuit of the mountain to be made as well as affording an ample supply of water to the village portion of the district. The scheme calls for an expenditure of £3OOO and it is proposed to borrow the money from the Government, to be secured by special rate over a special rating area. A resolution, moved by Mr J. E* Taylor, and seconded by Mr J* Robertson, to the effect that the prcposed scheme be reduced all round, was lost, only the mover and seconder supporting it. A further resolution, moved by Mr Trayes and seconded by Mr Wallace, urging the Board to proceed with the work, as recommended by the Engineer, was carried, practically all present voting in favour of th* motion. The Board will now institute steps to expedite the work, and a poll will be taken without delay to comply with the Act governing such matters. A supply of water will no doubt prove of inestimable value to people who are fortunate enough to reside in the locality of the proposed service, and the ratepayers concerned are to be commended on the step they have taken, which will greatly assist in the advancement of that portion of Mangere. The Mangere Road Board invite applications for the position of Ranger and Dog Registrar for the Mangere Road District. For particulars see advt in this issue.
