PAPAKURA
SUCCESSFUL FLOWER SHOW. Under the auspices of the Papakura Anglican Church tt Spring Flower Show whs held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday last, the exhibition being the first of its kind that has taken place in Papakura for many years past. Thanks to the capable organisation displayed by the Vicar (the Rev. W. C. Wood) the undertaking proved eminently successful and a larger building could well have been utilised to provide for the satisfactory number of exhibits that were secured and also for the accommodation of the public in attendance. The staging of the exhibits served to show them off to the best advantage, daffodils on raised benches in the centre of the hall making a particularly brilliant display, whilst decorated tables on the platform added to the picturesque effect. The needlework saction was also well grouped and the children's exhibits were similarly arranged to decided advantage. Produce and lolly stalls, festooned with evergreens, had a smart appearance and did a ready trade whilst afternoon tea and refreshments were dispensed in a marquee erected leading out from a side exit doer.. An exhibit in which great interest was centred was a cleverly executed cardboard model of the Church showing probable future extensions, the handiwork of Mr P. Holt. In this a new chancel as a memorial to fallen soldiers and side aisles were 1 featured, the existing 1206 square ft. floor space being given an addition of 810 square ft. The following were the stall-hol-ders, viz: Jumble sta'l: Mrs Jones and Miss Cave. Plant stall: Mesdames Shanaghan, A. Willis and Widdowson. Lollies : Misses G. Cave and Walters. Refreshment Buffett: Mes lames D. Wilson, Paul, Slack, Butler, Moars and Knibb. The secretarial duties were most efficiently carried out by Mrs Hirold Walters, assisted by Miss Hubbard, whilst Messrs Percy Holt and D. W. Jones (Vice-Presidents) also worked most energetically. The prize list will appeir in our next issue.
