PAPAKURA'B SALE YARDS
[TO THE EDITOB] , Sir—Re "the usual monthly budget," which seems to annoy the Chairman of the Town Board, I note the complaint made by our Association re straying cattle and think the Board should (five this matter their immediate attention. Yesterday (sale day) I witnessed several hundred head of cattle career* ing up and down the main street and footpaths. Towards evening the footwalks were in as bad a condition as the road. , . I would suggest to our Association that the Board be asked to convene a public meeting to consider the legal position of compulsorily closing these yards.' The present Board gave the public to understand that the yards were to be shifted early in the year (1917) but we are now at the end of theyear andnotevena start has been made. If the Papakura Town Board are not capable of dealing with this all important matter they would do well to give another Board an early opportunity of demonstrating the powers of a local body in nuisances of this kind. —Yours, etc-, friend. Papakura, sth September, 1917.
