LOCAL AND GENERAL.
Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., are to hold their usual monthly sale of stock in their Pukekohe yards next Monday. As previously announced, a concert for the benefit of hospital funds is to be given in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, to-night (Tuesday) by Miss Millicent Taylor's pupils, assisted by Auckland artistes. Mr H. J. Lodge announces by advt. in this issue that he is re-com-mencing business as from next Friday as a boot-maker in his old premises in King street, Pukekohe. Good progress continues to be made with the electric light installation in Pukekohe and the cables are now being erected. It is confidently anticipated that the light will be in operation towards the end of September.
Out of nine applicants for the appointment of permanent electric light linesman, the Pukekohe Borough Council has engaged Mr W. Everson, who is at present acting as linesman in the installation of the service in Pukekohe. Messrs J. T. SUmbridge and Co. are to hold a clearance sale in the estate of the late Mis Annie McSheen, on the farm, McGuire's road, Pukekohe, on Saturday next. Particulars will be found in an advertisement in this issue.
The recent improvement in the weather has been attended with considerable activity aniong-t the potato growers of Pukekohe and sowing operations have been vigorously carried out. A reminder is given of the billiard match to be played to-morr.>w (Wednesday) evening in Mr Mclntyre'a billiard saloon, Pukekohe, between the leading players of Pukekohe and Waiuku, six a-side. Play is to commence at 7 p.m and an admission of 6d will be charged, the procoeds to go to the Soldiers' Xmas Gift Fund.
Mr H. Lenehan has just commenced business in Pukekohe in premises adjoining Messrs W. G ( Shotbolt and Co's drapery establishment as a cabinetmaker and house furnisher. Mr Lenehan has considerable experience in the trade and has controlled similar undertakings both at Te Awamutu and in Taranaki. His stock is of a wide ranje and all orders for hi usehold furniture will be executed en the premises under his export guidance.
