PAPATOETOE
L The Papatoetoe Agent for " The Times " is Mr W. J. Dilworth from whom copies of the paper may be ordered] Mr S. Hodge, of J'ulii Nni road, has leased his farm to Messrs Stonex Bros, milk vendors, and leaves to take up his res'dence at Remuera at the end of this month. For nearly 22 years Mr Hodge has been one of the largest dairy farmers in this district and also has taken a keen interest in the local affairs of Papatoetce. He has served on the Road Board, having been chairman of that body for eleven years, and he is al°o a Justice of the Peace. He also interested himself in school matters; When the scheme for procuring a recreation ground was carried •through Mr Hodge was appointed one of the Tius'ets. On the formation of the Papatoetoe Bowling Club he also came forward as <>ne of the guarantors for the green He lias been closely connected \wth the Methodist body, having been for many years an office bearer of that church. Mr Hodge ha 9 always taken a keen interest in the Bowling Club and as a player will be very much missed. At the present time he is a member of the Town Hall Committee, for the building of which he has agitated for so ue time pist and he has the satisfaction in leaving the district of seeing his idea of a Public Hall carried into effect.
The first church parade of the Kohinoor Troop of Boy Scouts was held on Sunday afternoon last. The Scouts, uixder Scoutmaster Barton, paraded at 2.15 p.m and marched to St George's Church Hall, headed by the Standard bearer carrying the Union Jack. The church was full to oveiflowing. The Rev H. Mason preached a stirring sermon and exhorted the boys to live up to the teachings of the Scout laws.
A project is ou foot to form a fife . and drum band in connection with the Sco>:t movement and as Papatoetoe is very short of anything in that line for ceremonial work, the residents are quite anxious that the idea should take concrete form and many have offered to give their support to the movement A meeting of residents is likely to be called to consider the matter. With Mr Hodge's departure from the district Papatoetoe will have no Justice of the Peace in its ranks of residents. One or more appointments are necessarv to facilitate signatures for documents, etc, and it is hoped that the Department of Justice will make good the deficier.c\r
