CLEVEDON.

WAIROA ROAD BOARD MONTHLY MEETING At the monthly meeting of the Wairoa Road Board held at Clevedon last Monday there wore present Messrs A. 1). Bell (Chairman), H. Walsh, J. P. Luke, and J. McConaughy with the Clerk Mr A. E. Bailey). UEWUX's ROAD With ieference to the filling in of the ditch on Hewlin's road in respect of which the Board had intimated to Mr E. D. McLennan that they declined to recognise any liability Mr McLennan wrote pointing out that as the result of an interview he had had with the Board's Chairman (Mr Bell) he understood that the Board were willing to contribute £5 towards the cost. He added that the filling in of the ditch had cost him (Mr McLennan) about £35, in addition to the cost of the pipes. The consideration of the matt3r was deferred until the next meeting of the Board. IiROOKBY-CXEVKDoX ROAD The Clerk (Mr n. Moody? of the Papakura Road Board, intimated that the Public Works Department were prepared to graut a subsidy of £B7 towards the repairs to the Brookby-Cleveclon road. The Department's estimate of the cost was £l"o and the Papakura Road Board were of opinion that the Wairoa Board should contribute half of the balance, viz., £43 10s as in their opinion the Wairoa district derived most benefit from the same.

It was resolved that the Chairman, Messrs Luke and McConaughy should consult with the Board and make the best terms possible. PROPOSED DRAINAGE IIOAItD .In regard to the suggested formation of a Drainage Board for which a conference is to be held on Thursday next at Papakura it was resolved that the Chairman, Messrs Luke and McConaughy should represent the Board with power to act. WAIROA RIVKR BRIDGE Mr Alan P. Day, Clerk of the Franklin County Council, in reply to the Board's request intimated that his Council was prepared to support the Board in its application to the Minister of Public Works for the erection of the bridge across the Wairoa river on the boundary be tween Franklin County and the Board's district. He askei to be supplied with any infoimation which would strengthen the Council's representations to the Minister. The Clerk (Mr Bailey) reported that he had supplied all the particulars necessary.

RAXOER'x report The ranger (Mr J. Clark) reported that he had impounded during thn month of July 11 cows, 1 bull and 3 horses. ORAM ROAD A request was made of Mr R. H. Larsen for a road to be made giving him access to his property. Members stated that it was not possible to make a road at present as the house was situated on a ridge but at some future date when the weather improved some better facilities would be provided.

RIVER GK.VVEI. Mr Walsh drew attention to the serious state of the road owing to the damage sustained by the carting of gravel from the Waiioa river bed near Sutherland's ford. As the Board had control of the road and access to the river, where the gravel was obtained, it was resolved that no one should bo allowed access to the river without a permit from the Chairman. It was also decided to charge a royalty of 6d per cubic yard for the gravel. NESS VALLEY-UTAU ROAH iSKIIKJE The Chairman reported that he had obtained from Mr Goodman, contractor, a plan of the proposed concrete bridge to be erected on the Ness Yalley-Otau road which it was estimated would cost about £220. The Clerk reported that no applications for the position of ranger had been received. ACCOUNTS Accounts amounting to £l3j were passed for payment.

ENLARGEMENT OF DAIRY FACTORY

Considerable improvements in the plant and reconstruction of the NewZealand Dairy Association's factory at Clevedon are now being earned out to meet the trade which is developing in this district. Not only are four direct expansion vats to be piovided, instead of two as heretofore, but two largo churns will also be installed to c >pe with the large amount of cream to be dealt with Extensions have als) been made in connection with the receiving platform, and a new witter tank, with a capacity of 1000 gallons, and a brine tank, holding 500 gallons, have boon provided. A now engine built on solid concrete and the latest type of anamonia freezing plant have also been installed and when the cooling chamber and other extensions are complete it is calculate! that the factory will bo one of the most modern in the Auckland area. The amount of cream dealt with is increasing daily and it U safe to assume that Clevedon will bo still more important as a dairying contre | in the near future.
