MANGERE ROAD EOARD The usual monthly meeti ig of the Road Board was held last Monday evening. Present: Messrs B. Ivirkbride (chairman), 8. W. H.use, Jas. Montgomerie, and W. W. Massey. CORRESPONDENCE Mr G. A. Powdrill, wrote applying for of a reserve adjacent to the Mangere bridge on the condition that if he erected a fence around the same he should be granted a two years' free occupancy, with the right of a three years' renewal at 30s per annum at the expiry of that term.Tt was decided to accept the offer, conditionally that a fence was erected to the satisfaction of the Board's Foreman, The Clerk was instructed to again write to the Papatoetoe Road Board with reference to the damage their carters were doing to Station road by carting metal from the old railway line and to ask 'or the damage to be repaired and the ditch that had been filled in to give the carters entrance to the property re opened. Several letters were received complaining of storm water and the Foreman was instructed to attend to same and remedy if possible. In regard to a complaint from Mr W. Shuttleworth, who threatened legal pioc e lings le stormwater from off Station road flowing on his property unless the Board remedied the same, it was resolved to deny liability in the matter as there was a natural water course through the property ar:d no other outfall for the water.

A legal opinion was received from the Board's solicitors referring to the control and management of roads and drains, which clearly explained the position of the Board relative thereto.

Mr W. H May, Mountain road, wrote re bad state of road leading to his house and the Foreman was instructed to attend to the roadway and place a few loads of scoria thereon.

In regard to complaints re storm water in the vacinity of Rosella road, it w;is resolved that the Mauukau County Council should be written to and asked if they c mid enlarge or duplicate the present culvert on Massey road so as to enable the storm water to get away. The Et Hon. W. F. Massey, M P., wrote in answer to the Board's enquiry re Ascot Estate stating thit he was awaiting a report from the Land Purchase Board and would oommunicate again later.

Mr F. G. Hood, Mangere road, Otahuhu. wrote applying for the balance from the sale of a heifer which had belonged to him, and which had I eer> sold by auction at the Pound by the Board's Poundkeeper. The Clerk was ins'ructed to forward the amount due to Mr Hood. WATER STJITLY A report was received from Mr F. C. Powell, C.E, on a proposed water supply for residents at the Mangere bridge end of the district, shewing the feeling of the residents as far as taking a supply in the event of the scheme being cirried out. In view of tin low state of the Public Hall Account Fund*, the Board resolved that in future, when tlio hall is used at night for patriotic purposes, the usual charges must be enforced in order to defray expenses, as the grantiDg of the hall free, when practically all other revenue was at a standstill, was proving a severe loss to the funds.
