Captain Ryder, who recently underwent an operation in Auckland, has progressed favourably and is expected to return to Tuakau in a few days
Mr W. G. Grahim, tho local schoolmaster, who has devoted much time to public duties, has, we regret to leain, been advised by his medical attendant to relinquish such work.
Owing to the bad state of the road lending to the Town Board's quarry the Board have been obliged to purchase metal from Auckland. There is a good deal of sickness about the district aud it is reported that typhoid fever is suspected among the Maoris. Messrs I .Hp wood Bros, as the result of an expansion of their flaxmilling business, have t-iken over the mill lately owned by Mr G. Walker, by the side of the river at the Tuakau landing. The fit mhave equipped the factory with the latest macbineiy and plant and having secured n. large quantity of fbx they anticipate that both their ui'"s will bo kept running busily for the next twelve months.
