MAUNGATAWHIRI
DAIRY SUPPLIERS' MEETING A well attended meeting of dairy farmers was held at Maungatawhiri on Saturday afternoon the -Ist inst when Mr Win. Goodfellow (Managing Director of the Waikato Co-op Dairy Coy) was present. Mr Buckingham was elected chairman. Mr Goodfellow gave information relative to the Waikato Coy as already reported at previous meetings. He stated that the Company started S years ago as a proprietory concern and at the conclusion of the first year was conveited into a co-opera-tive business but it was not possible for some years to buy back all the original shares. The Company now, however, was a purely co-operative concern. The past season had been another record ono for the Company, despito the largo number of cheese factories that had been erected throughout the South Auckland Province. Prospects for the coming season were never better. It was estimated that the new factory at Tuakau would be completed shortly and would make roughly 800 tons butter during the coming season. The question of quality was a vital ono. The cream grading system required to be not only continued, but the standard, if possible, raised. The Company had lost some 20 suppliers within the past year owing to second grades, but the Company's butter had never been bettor. Payment to suppliers had been the highest paid by any butter making concern in the Auckland province and in addition a bonus of at least threepence would be paid when the buttar in store was sold. The statement to the effect that the Company had overpaid, was absurd. The Companv was in a strong financial position. Mr Goodfellow then quoted advance payments on a daily direct basis as follows : July ls-l,'d, August Is s]d, September Is 0 Jd, October Is 4Jd, November Is U;,'d, December Is 0, (J, January Is o,'d, February Is 3Jd, March Is 6,' d, April lfijd, May Is 6Jd, June Is fi]d. The Company were home separation specialists and had not sunk capital in side lines such as cheese and Glaxo. Continuing, Mr Goodfellow touched on the success of the Company's Co-operative Buying Office in Auckland and also on the " Money on Deposit " system. In answer to the question " Had the Company been adversely effected by Glaxo at Matamata " Mr Goodfellon replied that the Company had lost one supplier only, whereas the Waikato Co-op Cheese Compay had opened a branch factory in the same locality, while another factory was also in course of erection a few miles distant The supply would bo not less than from 1700 cows to those two factories during the coming season. After many questions had been satisfactorily answered, the meeting concluded with a very hearty vote of thanks to Mr Guodfellow and the Chairman.
