Particulars of the rates to be struck for the current year by the Raglan County Council will be found in an advt. in this issue. Particulars of a clearing sale to be held by the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. on Friday next on Mr A. R. Woon's farm at Maramarua are advertised in this issue. A special sale of dairy cattle is to be held on Saturday next by Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., in their yards at Pukekohe. Particulars of the entry will be found in an advt. in our columns Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., are to hold a clearing sale, by order of the Official Assignee, in the estate of Mr W. B. Everett at Pokeno, on Wednesday, August Ist. For particulars see advt. The annual concert by Miss Millicent Taylor's pupiUJis to be held on Tuesday, August 21st, in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, when the proceeds will be devoted to hospital funds. Gilbert, Pukekohe) wishes to dispose in consequence of his removal from the d strict. An announcement relative to the forthcoming triennial elections of the Franklin County Council, due to take place in November next, appears in our advt. columns stating that the rolls of electors have been prepared and will be open for inspection on and after the 27th inst. at various places as stated in the advt. Claims for additions to the roll or of objection to names contained therein must be made on or before August 22 ad. A large gang of men has now commenced operations between Runciman and Drury on the railway grade easement works. The alterations will include the provision of a central station in place of the existing Runciman and Drury stations whilst an overhead traffic bridge passing over a cutting will supersede the present dangerous level crossing on the Great South Road adjacent to Runciman station. Yet another member of the Pukekohe Fire Brigade in the person of Fireman Joseph Walsh is joining the colours for the purpose of proceeding to the front and ho was given a send-off at the Firo Station last Friday evoning by his fellow members of the Brigade. Capt. N. L. Brown presided and among those present were Crs Armstrong, Morrow and Stembridge, representing the Borough Council. A presentation of a handsome Loewe pipe and a pouch of tobacco was made to the departing fireman. Songs were rendered by Firemen Clark, Weston and E Young and a very pleasant evening was spent Foreman Walsh has also been the recipient of a pair of military hair brushes presented him by Messrs J. T. Stembridge & Co., in whose employ he has been for some time. The death occurred in the Auckland Hospital yesterday of Mr George Adams, a member of a wellknown Pukekohe family. The deceased, who was 52 yeais of age, had been ailing for some time past and with his condition becoming more precarioue he was conveyed to the hospital last Wednesday, The fifth son of the late Mr Thomas Adams, ho had the distinction of being the first white child born in Pukekohe his parents having been amongst the first of the pioneers to take up their abode iu the district around the present Convent, then known as the Cape Settlement. The late Mr Geo. Adams was a farmer by occupation. Ho is survived by a widow and a family of young children as well as by five brothers and five sisters, four of the former (Messrs Wm, John, This and Joseph Adams) and three of the latter Mrs John Reynolds, Mrs W. Crisp, and Miss L. Adams) being still residents of Pukekohe. One sister predeceased him. The funoral takes place at the Pukekoho Cemotory to-mor-row (Wednesday) afternoon.

( Tenders for the purchase of buttermilk from the Pukokohe Dairy factory for the HUV-18 season are invited by tho N.Z. Dairy Association per advt. in this issuo. Messrs.l. T. Stembridge and Co. advertise special entries of 20 store pigs and 12 weaners, fruit trees, shruhs, etc., for their usual weekly sale at their Pukekohe Auction Mart next Friday. A clearing sale on behalf of Mr W. F Baker is to be carried out on his farm at Beatty's road, Pukekohe, on Thursday next by Messrs J. T. Stembridge & Co., and the same firm will also hold a sale of household furniture aad effects at Mr D. Gilbert's residence, Prospect Terrace, Pukekohe, next Saturday. For particulars see advts. At the sitting of the Auckland Military Service Board yesterday the case of Maurice M. P. Coughlan, farmer, Puni, came up for reconsideration. He pleaded undue hardship, stating that since last before the Board he had only completed 15 acres ploughing on account of the continued bad weather. He and his father were running a farm of 1200 acres, and as his father was not in good health he desired exemption until his brother, who went into camp last month, returned from active service.
