UCKY ALLOTMENT DIGGERS.

A great deal uf troasufe trove is beng unearthed all over England as i result of allotment digging ou the iresent huge scale. A Brentford resident, for instance, ins turned up an old vase containing , large number of coins of the period if Jaines I. aktd Charles I. It is asumed that the treasure was hidden at iio time when the Royalist forces overman the district after the Battle of Irentford.

Another allotment-holder in Sussex ug up a box containing gold and silver i'naments, im Isleworth man spaded up ome old sovereigns, and similar finds iave been recorded in other parts of ho -country.

This, of course, is only what might iave been expected. Laud that has ain long fallow is very apt to hold uried treasure, for in olden days banks rere non-existent, and mother earth ormed a favourite hiding-place. Somewhere in Cambridgeshire, round he village of Sutton Bridge, lies bured the treasure lost by King John men overtaken by the tide in crossing he Wash. It was quicksand in his lay. It is dry land now, a«nd it is quite possible, therefore, that some lucky alctment holder in this district may unarth the ancient royal crown of Engund.
