AN APPEAL TO THE MAYOR.
It really is quite terrible— the weeks of ram we've had The roads are muddy rivers, the footpaths just as bad ! I think the Mayor should now repair to Mr Wragge and say - If this is all that you can do, you'd better go away And take your dismal prophecies to some far desert land, Where the natives will be glad to see some puddles in their sand.
We will equip you with a boat, and start you off to sea Just like a second Jonah ! and lose you thankfully. And then perhaps the sun again will condescend to shine And we'll rejoice with heart and voice, to see it once more fine. While the farmers and the shopkeepers will go to him and say " Thanks, Mr Mayor, now do declare a public holiday." 1.0. E. Patumahoe.
