"The Enemy Within Our Gates"
[To the Em tor] Sir, —It gave me great pleasure to read your lea ling artinle in the issue of June 26th headed as ahove and I think every Britishei will endorse your views that it is high time the Government took the matter in hand and once and for""a!l turned down everyhody with the taint of German Wood even unto the third and fourth generations. What is bred in the bone comes out in the flesh is a maxim that truly applies. Has the British race so far degenerated that no one can be found to fill any or every position of leadership or trust that is at present held by Germans or their decondants in this country? T think not, Sir. Then why run the risk of betrayal and intrigue ? Yours, Etc., T.B. HURLEY. Pukekohe, 3rd July, 1917.
