PAPAKURA.
OLD AGE PENSIONER'S DEATH. An inquest on the body of an old age pensioner, named Robert Rippey, whose sudden death was recorded in our last issue, was held at the Papakura Court-house on Friday afternoon by Mr Cecil Road ley, District Coroner The evidence was to the effect that the deceased who was 73 years of age and who lived in Settlement Road with Mr Robt Hamilton (his brother-in-law), was chopping wood on morning when he suddenly dropped his axe and running towards his home fell to the ground, being picked up with life extinct. Dr. Brookfield deposed that in his opinion death resulted from heart failure, for which he had previously treated the deceased. A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned. Two local identities in the persons of Messrs Tom Hunt and Martin Dempsey and known respectively as " Massey and Ward, " had an unpleasant experience a few days ago on the Main South Road. It appears that " Ward " offered to give " Massey " a lift homewards, when the horse attached to the cart took fright at a motor-car and both were precipitated on to the road, but fortunately without sustaining juryA progressive euchre party has been arranged for Wednesday, the 4th July, in the Picture Hall to augment the fund in aid of distressed families. Mr P. C. Johnson, the Social Secretary of the 1.0.0. F., is organising the function. The Literary and Debating Society hold their meeting on Wednesday evening next when essays by anonymous writers will be contributed There is likely to be a good attendance as the interest in the Society is increasing.
