PAPATOETOE ROID BOARD The monthly meeting of thfi Papatoetoe Boad Board was held yesterday (Monday). Present: Messrs E. Nicol (chairman), J. Bryant, A. U. Timewell, 8 Woolfield and J. Wyllie, with Mr H. C. Ernest (clerk). chairman's report The Chairman reported that he had taken the new surfaceman over the roads and had inspected them and that the water tables in Ghreen Park were in a very bad state owing to the late floods. Metal, he added, had been ordered forPuhiNai road. THE TOWN HALL Mr Bryant proposed, Mr Woolfield seconded, and it was carried that the Chairman's action in accepting the lowest tender for the Town Hall should be endorsed. The builder asked for the hollow i a front of the site to be filled in as some of the work of mixing would require to be done on the road side. —lt was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Clerk. An application was received from Mr Cobine in reference to leasing (he hall for the purpose of running a picture show.—Mr Timewell submitted the ta iff of the Otahuhu Public Hall —lt was agreed to lease the hall to Mr Cobine on similar terms to those of the Otahuhu hall. MrPohlen waited on the Board and claimed that the erection of the hall on the part of the section adjoining his residence would darken his h juse and would be deterimental to his property. He c insiiered that the hall should be erected on the other side of the section.—The chairman stated that there was a building on either side of the section and no matter what side it was built on it would still be up "against" another min's bui!d ng. The architect considered the site chosen the most suitable. —Mr Pohlen stated that he considered it a most unfriendly act an 1 he added that he had taken legal advice and that the Board would most likely be involved in a law suit —The Chairman informed Mr Pohien that he could do as he pleased but that the Board could not alter their arrangements. NIOHT-SOIL REMOVAL. A letter was received from the Papa kura Town Board stating that they were not in favour of the Papatoetoe B>ard using the Papakura depot, but that a depot could be procured at Papakura Valley for a rental of x 10 per year. After discussion it was proposed bv Mr Timewell, seconded by the chairman, and agreed that a rental of £5 should be offered for the dppot. MISCELLANEOUS. The Clerk was instructed to g*t a price for concrete pipes for a culvert on Coronation Road near Woolfield's property. Mr Carr attended and asked when the Board intended to finish the J ruin through his property on Rungitoto Road and the chairman replied that the matter would be put in hand. The chairman reported that Mr Pi ice had offered a blue metal pit to the Board, either to sell it outright or he would sell the metal on royalty.—lt was resolved that the chairman and Mr Wyllie should wait on Mr.Price in reference to securing the pit. Coronation Road was reported to be in a bad state and it was arranged that scoria be procured and the road patched. Mr Bryant reported that he and Mr Wyllie had inspected Bo«tt~fi9au and that the contractors (Messrs
x Uurnside Bros.) had made a very satisfactory job. Id accordance with a notice of rtnotion given at the previous meeting a rate of thtee-eighfhs of a penhy over the whole rateable area in the Papatoetoe Koad District was struck for the current year.
