BUCKLAND.

A farewell social was held in honour of Trooper G. Johnston aud Private N. Uliams in the Buckland Hall on Thursday last. Owing to a previous engagement Private Williams sent an apology for his absence A very pleasant evening was >pent the following contributing items, Doria Avery, Messrs T. Walker, 0. 0 Johuston, E Pooke and 0. gm'th Mr E. Piggott presided, and Messrs Avery and Wily addressed the gathering. A vote of sympathy wis passed with Mr E. Allan and family, also with Mr and Mrs R. Johnston and family, in their recent bereavements, and also with the relations of Private Clive J.hns, whose narao appeared in the latest list of killed. After supper was handed round and the singing of Auld Lang Syne the gathering dispersed. Out of respect to those families who have recently suffered bereavement no dance was held.
