CLEVEDON.

WAIROA ROAD BOARD The monthly meeting of the Wairoa Road Board was held in the Board's Office at Clevedon on Monday of last week. Present: Messrs A. D. Bell (chairman), J. McConoughy, H. Walsh, Wm. Duder, J. Luke and the Clerk (A. E. Bailey). CLEVEDON-BROOKBY ROAD. The Chairman stated that Mr Luke had met the Papakura Road Board in conference over this road, and it was ultimately agreed that both Boards should simultaneously apply to the District Engineer of the Public Works Department for a grant of £2OO towards removing slips off the road, so as to re-open it for wheel traffic. The Chairman of the Papakura Road Board to also iuterview the District Engineer of the Public Works Department in support of the application. ARDMORE-ALFRISTON ROAD. The Chairman reported that Mr Walsh and he had inspected that part of the above road which was well nigh impassablo and had got the worst places fascined. It was resolved that Mr Walsh should see the Solicitors when in town to enquire what steps are necessary to ctear up the position of drains on the road, which are flooding the low-lying parts of it.

WAIROA RIVER ROAD BRIDGE. As the Board considered the reply received from the District Engineer of the Public Works Department the matter of replacing the bridge over the river on this road unsatisfactory. It was decided to re-open the matter again. It was resolved that a copy of the correspondence be sent to the Franklin County Council asking them to support the Board in the matter of getting the Bridge reerected, and the road to Hunua opened up for wheel-traffic. It was also resolved that a letter should be sent to the Public Works Department stating that it is the opinion of the Board that a ford over the river was not feasible, but if the Department thought they could make a buitable ford for them to send out an expert and define a suitable place for it. BATES Tho Chairman gave notice of motion, That at the next meeting of tho Board he would move that a general rate of £d in the £ on the capital value of all rateable property in the district should be struck. NOXIOUS WEEDS Mr Geo. Walker wrote requesting the Board to notify owners on Creighton's road frontage to clear noxious weeds. It was resolved, 'that notices and orders to clear noxious weeds be sent to all ratepayers iu the district who had not cleared the weeds of their frontages. (jUINN's DEVIATION Mr litiko drew attention to the difficulty of obtaining the signatures of the natives to the closing of the old Mataitai road and mentioned that the third method of closing a road by putting a notice up at each end of the portion of the road to be closed would be the best.—Mr Walsh was authorised to interview the Solicitors re the closing of the road.

UNAUTHORISED GRANTS A letter was received from tl e Assisttant EngineerlPublic Works Department enclosing a list of unauthorised grant balances and inquiring if the Board required grants substituted for works other than for those voted for

It was resolved that the grant Ardmore to Alfriston £BO, £1 for £1 and Campbell's Stream Bridge £l5O, £1 for £l, be allowed to stand for what they were yoted for. Also that the Kami Clump's Road Grant £SO, £1 for £1 be transferred to Ocau Mt. road; of the grant for Creighton's ,road £IOO, £1 for £l, £25 bo transferred to Parish Lino road ; £SO to Clevedon-Mataitai road and £25 be left on for Creighton's road. The Ness Valley Grant of £SO to be transferred to Ness- VulleyMouiuouhaki Hill road. It was also resolvo-1, That tho Department should be requested to make tho grants available f«,r expenditure. DRAINS " Gazette " was read, wherein by ProcVnation the Governor in-Coun-cil vested the exclusive caro, control anl management of drains, and drainage works in the Board's area in the Board's control.
