WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE

PUKEKOHE BRANCH At the quarterly meeting of the Pukekohe Branch of the Women's Patriotic League held on Wednesday, May 30th, there were present Miss Webster (in the chair), Mesdames Barter, Mcßae, Ba}ley, Mee, Hart, Fitress, Crum, Baxter (secretary), Misses Barter, Brown, Graham, Goldsworthy, Galloway, Bilkey and Stuart. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames W. T. Jones, Motion, Hogan, Hooey, Stuart, Grigor, Webb, O'Connor and Miss Shipherd. It was reported that seven new members had been added to the branch, making a total of 49 members altogether.

The following report, as submitted by the Secretary, was read, viz: "It will be very gratifying to both canvassers and donators of Dominion Gifts parcels to know that they totalled 853 for tho quarter, representing cash to the value of £lO3 17s 6d. With the exception of Hamilton. Pukekohe leads the list of all country branches in the Auckland Province for the supplying of these welcome gifts to the New Zealand lads in the firing line." Miss Usher, convenor of the Sewing Committee, reported that 100 sanitary shirts and 150 hussiifs had been made up and forwarded to the League's headquarters. In thanking the helpers who assisted she also stated that more workers' help would be acceptable and was urgently needed for extending the benefits to more of the men in the trenches. Mrs Stuart, convenor of the Literature Committee, reported that three large cases of books had been sent since the last quarterly meeting to the receiving depot. She added that she would be grateful for further gifts of literature. Mrs Webb, convenor of the Entertainment Committee, reported as to the various functions held. Mrs Baxter, on behalf of the Knitting Committee, reported that during the quarter just ended there has been received in donations 4 caps, 3 pairs sox and 20s in cash for wool and the following knitted articles had been forwarded to Auckland, viz, 137 caps, 74 pair sox, 28 scarves and 26 pairs mittens. In the nine months of the current year there had been a total of 741 knitted articles forwarded from this branch and it was hoped that by the end of the financial year the Branch would have sent forward at least 1000 knitted articles. The convenor hopefully requested loyal assistance towards having the 1000 mark reached.

Treasurer's Report.—Balance in hand at end of last quarter, £l6O 10s 2d. Income for three months : Cash donations, £2; proceeds Show, £l3O lis; Miss Taylor's concert, £4O ; Y.M.C.A. afternoon, £2l Is 9d ; Miss Townson's concert, £l3 16s 8d ; total, £367 19s 7d. Outlay, for three months : Wool purchasing, £24 8s 3d ; Sock fund, £6 ; hussifs and sanitary shirts, £7 18s 4d ; money paid to various Patriotic Funds, including Red Cross, Y.M.C.A., Belgians, Salvation Army, £l9O 10s; various small terns 12s 6d; total, 229 9s Id. Balance in Bank to date, £l3B 10s 6d.

BUCKLAND WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE The* ladies of the Buckland Branch of the Women's Patriotic League met on May 31st, Mrs Wily presiding. Correspondence was dealt with including a letter from Miss Neale, secretary, expressing a wish to be relieved of her duties owing to illness in the family. In view of Miss Neale's valuable services it was decided to ask her to withdraw her resignation, Mrs Wily agreeing to undertake her duties pro tem. The secretary was directed to express the sympathy of the ladies of the league to Mr and Mrs Johnston and family in the loss of a son at the Front, and with Mr Allan and family in their rect nt bereavement.

The following receipts for the month of May and June were reported, viz, Anzac Service collection, £3 10s; donation, 19s sent to the Eed Cross and 6s sent to the children's hospital.
