The N.Z, Farmers' Co-op Bacon and Meat Packing Co., Ltd, will not be buying pigs next week but will be purchasing at Patumahoe on Monday the 25th inst., and at Pukekohe, Buckland and Pokeno the following days respectively. The Government's appeal for farmers to adopt wheat growing to aid in the production of foodstuffs has had little or no response in Franklin County, only one application having been received by the authorities for seed which the Government have offered to supply to bona-fide growers. If seed is wanted for the purpose a request should be made to Inspector Rowan, Agricultural Department's office, Auckland.

With a shortage of man labour two sturdy specimens of the so-called weaker sex were one day last week to be seen on the Great South read at Runciman clearing away an obstruction in the form of a tree that had fallen across the highway. With axes and choppers they worked untiringly, the trunk and branches being deftly cut up into firewood.

As previously announced, there is to be a sitting of the Assessment Court, presided over by Mr F. V. Frazer, S.M., at the Pukekohe Courthouse next Monday for the purpose of heariLg objections against the recent re-valuations of properties in the Pukekohe, Mauku and Waiuku Kidings of Franklin County and in the Karaka Road District,

Private advice has been received by Mr C. Roadley, of Pukekohe, that his son, Corpl A. F. Roadley, was wounded in the recent offensive oil the western front and is now in hospital in France. Corpl Roadley was previously wouuded in the Sonime advance and had only been back in the trenches six weeks.

Ten local representatives of the 28th Reinforcement Draft rrturnod to Pukekohe this morning on thoir final leave. Included in the number was Private VV. Dnggan, an exmember of the " Times " Staff, who is to be entertained in the Oddfellows' Hail on Wednesday evening next at a farewell supper and dance promoted in his honour by the proprietors and members of the local printing firms.

B Walsh's farm at Rama Rama on Thursday next by Messrs Alfred Buckland & Sons, Ltd , and also of a special sale of dairy cattle to be held at Pukekohe of on Saturday of next week. The same firm will also sell at the Runciman saleyards next Tuesday, - in the estate of Mr H. Casanbon deceased allotment, No. 3 of Section 7 Drury.
