COUNT TISZA.
'1 lie resignation cf Count Titzn. which wax announced the other day. was not unexpected; it had been forecasted many times cf late. Count Tisza is held by many in Hungary to lie the chief author of the war, and iiad the reputation of being the Kaiser's mouthpiece. He was well aware of this, and was fi nd of referring to the "dangerous madness of certain centralising tendencies," without, however, succeeding in \ persuading'the people that he was not secretly promoting these \ery tendencies. Count Tisza was not cniv Premier of Hungary, but was a powerful factor in Austrian politics: in fact, it has been said that Austria has been ruled l»y Count Tisza and the War Surveillance Office, at the head of which is a German.
Count Tisza was born in Buda Pestli on August 22. 18G1. eldest son cf the famous Coloman de Tisza. who was at the head of the Government fiom 187- r > until IS9O. Educated in t'ne first place at home, he afterwards studied at Heidclberg. Berlin, and Buda Pcsth, showing exceptional ability and pining the degree of Doctor of Political ScienceElected to Parliament in 18So, he proved himself a debater, with a firm belief in his opinions and a fixed ill termination to carry his projects through. He came into power for the first time after the resignation of the [/.ell Cabinet, in 19(13. and .despite most troublous times, held that power until 1900. Iu 1010 he became the strong man of the National Labour Party. Towards the end of May. 101 -J. he accepted the presidency, and in MM3 formed a Cabinet. He has been Premier during the war period.
