FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL.
The following business, in addition to that reported in our Friday's issue, was dealt with at last Thursday's meeting of the Franklin County Council, viz. :
A BACK-BLOCKER'S APPEAL.
Mr F. Harvey, of Glenbrook, waited on the Council and explained that he had purchased some land at Glenbrook which ran back to the Waiuku stream. He asked that some access should be provided thereto. He said that if the Council would assist and provide pipes and earthwork he would be prepared also to help. On the motion of Cr Higginson it was arranged that the Engineer should visit the district on his return to duty and report.
NEEDLES WHARF APPROACH. A petition was presented from eighteen ratepayers of Waiuku East Riding petitioning the Council for a grant to complete the Mission Bush Road and approaches to Needles Wharf. It was mentioned that the settlers were prepared to raise a loan of £ooo towards the necessary approaches to the wharf. The clerk suggested that application should be made to the Public Works Department for a Government subsidy of £SOO towards the work.
On the motion of Cr Henry, seconded by Cr Higginson, it was agreed to make the application for a subsidy of £SOO as suggested. A OLMBROOK DEPUTATION. A deputation representing the Glenbrook Farmers' Union attended and complained of the unsatisfactory state of the roads in their district. Cr Higginson mentioned that the surfaceman had endeavoured to proceed wi'h the work on the Glenbrook Road but his time had been fully occupied elsewhere. Mr Hodgkinson emphasised the fact that an additional surfaceman was nee led as one man could not do the work required in the Hiding. He also enquired if the Council rould obtain a grant to complete the metalling from Glenbrook Station to Ti Ti corner.
Cr Henry suggested that it might be possible to ob'.ain a Government grant to have the road metalled. Tho chairman expressed his sympathy with the deputation and assured them that the Council would arrange to hivt the work done as soon a* possible.
ACCESS TO PACKINOTOJf. Mr Wyman (a member of the Ghnbrook deputation) next enquired if tko Council would be prepared to give tin necessary earthenware pipes to form about 20 chains of the road lea<lin<j to Pakington Block so that jettleis by using a piivate road acr»ss his land could have better access to their holdings, the public road being impassable. Mr Wyman mentioned that the total length of the road, the work on which would be done by the settlers, would be about a mi'e.
Cr Henry suggested that the Crowu Lands Department should be approached so that the sum of £4OO, which it was understood they held, could be expended on the making of the road.
On the suggestion of the chairman it was agreed that he and Mr Wyman with Cr Higginson should wait upon the Public Works Department in respect of the matter
MOTOR REGULATIONS. The Tiraaru Borough Council forwarded copies of resolutions passed by them and asked for the support of the Council thereto, viz. : (1) That the Government should be urged to amend the law so as to make it compulsory for all motor registering authorities to examine drivers and to issue yearly licenses to competent drivers of motor cars and cycles, that such drivers should license in the district in which they reside and that such driver should be entitled to drive in any other district, and also (2) That front and rear identification marks sh uld be made compulsory.
