MANGERE.

WATER SUPPLY SCHEME A meeting of ratepayers and residents of the Mangere Road District was held in the schoolroom at Mangere Bridge on Thursday evening, May 31st, for the purpose of considering a scheme for a water supply. Mr M. Kirkbr:de, chairman of the Road Board, presided. The Chairman, in his opening romarks, stated that the meeting had been convened for the purpose of considering any further proposals that had not been discussed at the previous meeting so that a definite decision might be ar r ived at. Mr J. E. Taylor submitted a report and proposal to the ratepayers giving a very full and detailed scheme which he had propounded for a local supply from Mangere mountain. He considered the Onohunga supply was not of good qua'ity and had been commented on by medical men as being unfit.

Mr Barr stated that he had used the Onehunga supply for a considerable time and ho had no cause to complain as to the quality of the water.

Af:or much discussion Mr J. E Taylor moved and Mr W. Seott seconded that that meeting of Mangere Bridge ratepayers should make a request to tho Mangere Road Board for a special rating area to bo constituted in accordance with law for the purpose of forming a water Gupplyareain that put of tho district as outline I on tho plan submitted by Mr 11. Metcalfe, <J.E, and detailed by the chairman. This was carried unanimoii>|y.

A further rosolun-m was moved by Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Robertson, and canied, lh.it tho Mangere Road Board .should I»h requested to take stops to instill a J.] inch service pipe from the meter on the Mangere bridge to a 2.">,(i01l gallon reservoir to be erected on the. side of the Mangere mountain at a cost of £2BO in order to ensure a constant supply of water to consumers dining tho summer mouths.
