PUKEKAWA.

RED CROSS GATHERING A very successful meeting was held in the local hall on Wednesday afternoon. May 23 rd, the occasion being a Red Cross Tea, which Mrs Hudson Williamson had expressed her willingness to attend in order to explain more fully the aim and work of the Red Cross Victoria League. The majority of the ladies of the district were present as well as a few visitors from Tuakau. Mrs Orr, snr, in a few well chosen remarks, introduced the visitor, who was very cordially received. Mrs Williamson gave a most interesting discourse which was listened to with great interest and sympathy by those present. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the visitor, who expressed her pleasure at seeing so many at the tea. Afternoon tea was then handed round by the ladies, after which the time was spent in music and chatting. The singing of the National Anthem brought the proceedings to a close. A collection resulted in the sum of £3 3s being handed to Mrs Williamson for the funds of the League. The hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion by the Morrison Bros.

Mrs Williamson was the guest of Mr and Mrs M. G. Orr during her short stay in the district.
