Karaka Road Board.

I TO THE EDITOR] Sir, —In connection with your report of the meeting of the Karaka Road Board in your issue of May 18th it is more than surprising to note h.>w lax some of the members of the Board are to veto the expenditure on unauthorised and (I believe) illegal works. Is it possible that a motion from the member of No. 1 Ward to veto such expenditure could lapse for want of a seconder ? Is it for want of moral courage on the part of the members of our Board, or is it private influence that so sways the minds of our public men'? I think the ratepayers have a just and serious cause to object to such expenditure in the face of such heavy financial obligations as are held by this Board. 1 am, etc., — A RATEPAYER
