The Vicar (Rev Harry Mason) presided over a good attendance. After the usual preliminaries in regard to prayers and minutes had been disposed of, the Vicar gave a resume of the work of the whole parish during the past year, making a special appeal for more helpers in all branches of the Church's work, particularly the Sunday school and choir, and he also outlined a policy for the incoming vestry. The annual accounts were presented and after la slight discussion were adopted. All old debts have now been paid, and the report disclosed that the assets exceeded the liabilities by £ls. The liabilities were £25 on the general church funds and the Parish Hall account was in debt for interest to the extent of £37 10s. The new church building fund stands at approximately £SOO A letter from the lay members of the Standing Committee in reference to the increasing of stipends generally was referred to the incoming Vestrymen. It was decided to ask the new Vestry to establish a sinking fund to liquidate the debt on tha Parish Hall. A motion was tabled proposing to rescind the resolution adopted in 1903 to pay an annuity to Canon Gould (ex Vicar) of £4O per annum, and the discussion disclosed some dissatisfaction with the system of paying an annuity in lieu of the shortage in stipend paid to Canon Gould during his incumbency. A motion to discuss the matter in committee was defeated on the casting vote of the chairman, and after several members of the church had spoken very strongly on the matter, the chairman ruled the motion out as being ultra vires to . the canons. The chairman's ruling was dissented to, but he refused to permit discussion, although there was a strong feeling that his decision was in order to stop debate and tbe correctness of his views will be combatted later and more will no donbt be heard of the matter, feeling op the subject being evenly divided. » It was decided to urge that the franchise be granted to women in church matters Dr Rowley was appointed Vicar's 'Warden, and Mr £ Curry was elected people's warden. The following were elected as Vestrymen for this year: Messrs Wildman, Slyfield, H. Hall, White, Patterson, (i Toms, McDell, Shelton and R Todd, with Messrs A. Hall and 1). Jenkins to represent Papatoetoe interests. The meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. I'OOTBAtL. The first match of the season under Northern Union Rules was played at Otahuhu on Saturday, when City met and defeated Otahuhu by 14 points to 2. Owing to several of tbe Otahuhu players being absent through illness the local Club v had some difficulty in getting sufficiert players to take the field. In the forward division Otahuhu more than held their own but City were much superior in the backs. Otahuhu sadly missed their old general Hardgreaves and Cloke on he wing was also absent. In the forwards Mark Brown show ed up very prominently as also did H. Martin. Of the hacks Eustace and Martin played sterling games, both saving their teams in many a tight corner. For City McKubery scored three tries and Sheehan one, Martin kicking a penalty goal for Otahuhu. Otahuhu hope to put a fairly strong team in the field in the next match, as five of their best men will then be available. The usual foitnightly meetihg of the Otahuhu Borough Council will be held on Thuisday next. A lengthy list of cases is down for attention at the Otahuhu Magistrate's Court next Thursday and an extended sitting seems probable. There were large congregations at the anniversary services of the Otahuhu Presbyterian Church last Sunday, the Rev R. Inglis occupying the pulpit. An "At Home," under the auspices of the Otahuhu Patriotic League is to be held in the Otahuhu Parish Hall on Saturday afternoon, June 2nd.
