EAST TAMAKI.
EAST TAMAKI ROAD BOARD The first meeting of the East Tnmaki Road Board, subsequent to the recent election, was held on Monday last, in the East Tnmaki hall, the members present being Messrs F. Waters, C. Wallace and J. White, with the Clerk (Mr Alex. Bell). ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN The first business of the meetin was to elect a chairman for the ensuing year. It was proposed by Mr Waters, seconded by Mr White, and carried that Mr C. Wallace should be appointed to fill the position. road works The chairman reported that he had inspected the bridge at Flat Bush school in company with the Engineer and it was decided to cut down the hill two feet and to raise the bridge three feet, arrangements being also made for estimates to be procured for building the bridge m concrete and in wood. Mr White asked if anything had been done towards securing a man to work on the roads, as he knew of a very suitable man who had had many years' experience on road work.—The Chairman replied that nothing had so far been done but -that it was an urgent matter which would have to be seen into shortly. It was agreed that the matter should be left over for a fuller meeting of the Board, MEETING DAYS It was resolved that the Board's meetings should be held on the last Monday in each month at 1.30 p.m. GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES Mr Waters asked when the Government subsidy would be due as he understood that the Papatoetoe Road Board had already received their amounts. * Mr Bell (Clerk of the Board) stated that about £125 would be the amount of subsidy this year and that it would be forthcoming in June. _ Mr Waters made the suggestion that the Board should move very carefully this year as up to the present they had to face liabilities of £250 and the year had hardly commenced. They would have to consider ways and means otherwise another rate would have to be struck which they wished to avoid if possible. ARREARS OF RATES Some discussing ensued as to the outstanding rates amounting to about £BO. Mr White asked if they were sure of recovering these rates within a short space of time. The Clerk replied that he felt sure they could be secured without much trouble. It was proposed by Mr Waters, seconded by Mr White, and carried that a 10 per .cent penalty be charged on all rates not paid by the 31st inst. MISCELLANEOUS The Chairman reported that the furze were very bad in front of Clarke's property in Kempton's road and Mr Waters reported that the same state of affairs existed on the road at Mr Eccles' corner, the land being owned by an absentee. —It was decided to notify the owners of the properiies concerned to have the furze removed. Mr J. Finday attended at the Board's request and reported that he could get about 100 yards of metal at Flat Bnsh school. Mr White stated that he thought they should have the most urgent jobs attended to at once as in some places only a little metal was required and if left till later it would mean a much bigger undertaking.—lt was resolved that 100 yards of spa wis should be got ready for crushing and that Mr Findlay should be authorised to go on with the work. The Chairman mentioned that the last metal was crushed too small and suggested that the next should be a two inch gauge. Mr J. Findlay complained that the furze and briars were in a very bad state on the Domain, and the Chairman suggested that the Board should take a day to go around and inspect the various roads in the district.
